MAHOGANY & LACQUERED FURNITURE FINISHING PROCESS

Mahogany Furniture - Step By Step Finishing Process
Every mahogany piece is hand carved by the finest carvers utilising traditional hand tools and quality raw materials with a hand applied finish. As solid mahogany timber is a natural material, small knots, blemishes, stains and small colour variations must be regarded as part of its inherent beauty. All our mahogany furniture is hand crafted using traditional dove tailed joints and mahogany frame construction.

1. Sanding
Our team in Indonesia use EKAMEN sandpaper No.120 and NIPON No.150 for machine sanding and NIPON No.120 for hand sanding.
2. Base Stain
In the raw state a base stain is applied. A cloth is used to work the wood stain into the wood pores, this speeds us the drying process. If wood resins appear after the base stain process, this is rectified by using small pieces of glass to elliminate.
3. Base Coat
The base coat protects and closes the wood pores. A spray gun is used to flatten the coating on all parts of furniture.
4. Sanding After Base Coat
Using NIPON sandpaper No.360 each piece of furniture is sanded smooth and clean before the next step.
5. Second Stain
The same procedure as the first stain process is used to apply the second stain. The purpose of the second stain is to enhance the base stain so this matches as closely as possible to the real stain.
6. First Top Coat
The function of first top coat is to protect the second staining processing. A spray gun is used to flatten the coating.
7. Final Stain/Colouring
The function of this step is  to give an overall colour definition for all areas of each piece of furniture.
8. Final Top Coat
The function of top coat is to protect all the finishing processes. This is applied using a spray gun.
9. Final Touch
Finally all the furniture is hand waxed and packed in corrugated paper ready to be shipped.

Lacquered Furniture - Finishing Process

Acrylic lacquer is often regarded as the best all-around finish for light-colored woods, such as ash, birch, and maple. It is non-yellowing and durable, easy to maintain and sure to never crack or split. Our range of top quality lacquered furniture uses modern factory finishing methods to ensure the highest level of finish. The Camellia, Rosetta and Toulouse ranges all are finished to a very high standard and the durable acrylic lacquered finish on all pieces are so easy to clean - just wipe over with a damp cloth or use everyday furniture polish to clean. Most of our lacquered furniture comes fully assembled, but some items do require some minimal assembly, full instructions are provided. Our lacquered Camellia, Rosetta and Toulouse collections are an ideal choice, if you are looking for easy to maintain, fuss-free furniture.
